Author and naturalist Peter Mattheissen gave a lecture entitled “The Snow Leopard” at UCI on November 1, 1977. His lecture began a four-part “Exploring the Exotic” series cosponsored by the UCI Committee on Lectures, in co-operation with the L.S.B. Leakey Foundation. Mattheissen had just spent five weeks traveling on foot across the Himalayas to a wildlife sanctuary on the Tibetan plateau. His lecture was an account of the endangered species in that area.
